Akihabara is best known for anime, electronics, and neon-lit side streets. But beyond the arcades and maid cafés, it's also home to some genuinely excellent ramen — including several shops that rank among Tokyo's best.

Below are five picks, all within walking distance of Akihabara Station. As always, we're leaving out any shops we visit on our Tokyo Ramen Tours.

Quick Picks
Best Shio: Motenashi Kuroki
Best Classic Shoyu: Ramen Tsugumi
Best Miso: Shokudo Iki na Issho
Best Modern Shoyu: Mendokoro Honda
Best Punchy Chicken Shio: Tenjinshita Daiki
1. Motenashi Kuroki (饗 くろ喜)
Motenashi Kuroki is one of the top-ranked ramen shops in all of Tokyo. That's saying something. Whatever you order, you won't go wrong—but the shio ramen is the one to get.
The seasoning is a blend of five different salts, including Mongolian rock salt, and it shows. The broth behind it is equally considered—whole chickens and fish among a long list of ingredients. Clean, precise, and more complex than it looks. If you've never had shio ramen before, this is a great place to start.
Shop Hours: Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, Sat: 11 am ~ 2:30 pm / 5:30 ~ 7:30 pm // Wed: 11 am ~ 2:30 pm (closed on Sun)
2. Ramen Tsugumi (らーめん紬麦)
Tsumugi falls into the category of hidden gem. This Akihabara ramen shop sits in the basement of an unassuming office building. Where Motenashi Kuroki pushes limits with modern ramen, Tsumugi is all about the classics.
Order the standard "ramen" — top left of the ticket machine. The name undersells it. The soy sauce broth is built on whole chickens, pork trotters, and a handful of other ingredients, with strong bonito notes coming through clearly. Well-balanced and quietly excellent.
Shop Hours: Mon-Fri: 11:30 am ~ 2:30 pm / 6 pm ~ 10:30 pm // Sat: 11:30 am ~ 2:30 pm (closed on Sun)
3. Shokudo Iki na Issho (食堂粋な一生)
This modest spot serves old-school ramen in the same spirit as Tsumugi. Several options on the menu, but the miso ramen is the one worth focusing on. Three types of miso are blended together and matched with a broth built from 20+ ingredients.
The result is rich without being heavy—it'll remind you of the classic miso bowls you've had elsewhere, with a pleasant smokiness running through it. Toppings are straightforward: crunchy bean sprouts, Japanese spinach, bamboo shoots, and a generous slab of chashu pork.
Shop Hours: Mon-Fri: 11 am ~ 9 pm // Sat-Sun: 11 am ~ 8 pm (closed on Wed)
4. Mendokoro Honda (麺処 ほん田)
This place is another darling of the Tokyo ramen world. Owner Honda-san is considered something of a ramen prodigy—he got into the industry at 21, and the reputation has only grown since. The flagship shop recently moved to Akihabara, right across from the station.
Order the shoyu. It's chicken-forward, but there's a lot going on in the soup—subtle fish notes underneath, a broth that rewards attention. The varied slices of chicken and pork are a real treat, and the in-house noodles hold up well.
Shop Hours: Tue-Sun: 11:30 am ~ 3 pm / 6 pm ~ 8 pm // Mon: 11:30 am ~ 3 pm (open every day)
5. Men Zin Saito (麺ZINさいとう)
Men Zin Saito specializes in tanmen, a style of ramen topped with a mountain of stir-fried vegetables like cabbage and bean sprouts. It’s not a style you see featured very often, and here it gets an extra punch. The broth is built on wagyu beef bones, giving the soup a richer character compared to most tanmen.
The noodles are thick and wavy, sturdy enough to handle the broth and the pile of vegetables on top. One more fun detail: the shop is run by a former RIZIN MMA champion, which adds some fighter spirit to the bowl. Also - in the evening, they serve a soupless ramen instead of the tanmen.
Shop Hours: Every day: 11 am ~ 3 pm / 6 ~ 9 pm
